Project Description
Schlieren photography is a method of imaging density differences in fluids. It has been used to study shock waves of supersonic jets and pressure differences in ballistics. The goal of our Advanced Lab major project was to understand how each of the key components in a simple Schlieren setup affect the overall Schlieren image. This video outlines our setup, some tips on taking a Schlieren video, and some of the physics behind the Schlieren effect.
